On Thursday, April 11 SFX had its first ever Relay for Life Rally. High school students were able to learn about the Relay for Life event that SFX will be holding on May 31.

Relay for Life is run across Canada every May through the Canadian Cancer Society and helps to raise funds for much needed Cancer Research. Students put together teams and raise money, culminating in a great day of honouring and celebrating those who we have lost to Cancer, and those who have survived this deadly disease.

The Relay involves teams of students taking turns walking the track at the school to represent the trials an individual undergoing Cancer may experience, while also participating in fun, spirit-building activities. It will run from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm on May 31.

All high school students are encouraged to participate. Students who would like to be a part of this event are asked to go to to register themselves or their team for the Relay. There will also be a table set up in the atrium at lunch for registration.

There is a registration fee of $20 which includes a t-shirt, food, and activities during the day of the Rally. Students who are participating are also asked to fundraise a minimum of $100. There are incentives for students to register, and for those who are able to raise the most money.

The Relay for Life fits in well with the current board theme of Seeking Justice, as by participating in this event, we are trying to create a world that is free of Cancer, making sure that excellent treatment is available to all who need it through the funds we are able to raise.

Registration for this event will take place from April 11 - May 3. We hope that students will join us to Be Bigger than Cancer!
