OCSB Spiritual Theme 2018-2021

The OCSB has adopted a rich and meaningful passage from Micah 6:8 as the Board's Spiritual Theme for the next three years. This three-year approach will focus on Catholic social teachings to align wit global competencies and encourage learners to think globally and act locally.

Year One: Seek Justice
The first year will focus on social justice and the appropriate moment to introduce Catholic social teaching as a lens for learning throughout the curriculum.

Year Two: Love Kindness and Mercy
The second year will focus on healthy relationships and family.

Year Three: Walk Humbly with God
We are called to live an authentic faith, close to our God in lifelong discovery leading to transformation. The third year will allow for deep learning as we continue to explore the richness of the theme.

Chaplaincy Department

Our school's current Chaplaincy Leader is Tony Adams. Mr. Adams holds a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Memorial University, has studied theology at the graduate level, and has completed a master degree in Pastoral Counselling at Saint Paul University. He has served the Ottawa Catholic School Board for over 15 years as a Chaplaincy Leader. Mr. Adams can be reached anytime via the school’s main number.

High school chaplaincy is a ministry of presence to staff, students and their families. The Chaplaincy Leader helps to create an atmosphere of care, concern and compassion. Through the Chaplaincy Leader, community worship, prayer and social action projects are animated. The Chaplaincy Leader also fosters liaisons with local parish communities and the diocese and assists the school and parents in helping students practice their faith by loving God and neighbour. Personal and Catholic Christian development will be provided through pastoral counselling, class visits, social action projects, peer ministry, and preparation for various liturgical activities and celebrations.

Trudy Chang will be replacing our chaplaincy leader, Tony Adams while he is on leave. Trudy Chang has her B. A in Theology and Pastoral Studies as well as her Master of Divinity from St. Paul University. She worked as a Chaplaincy Leader at Notre Dame High School in Carleton Place with the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. She has also worked part time in the office for the Ottawa Catholic School Board.

Trudy grew up on Manotick Station Road and attended St. Leonard and St. Mark High School. She currently lives in Kanata with her husband and four children. Trudy is happy to be at St. FX and recognizes the unique and diverse nature of the school community. She is looking forward to supporting all the students and staff in their faith journey.

St. Francis Xavier High School is privileged to have its own chapel. The chapel, located off the atrium, is the focus of the spiritual life of the school. The chapel is used for private prayer and class liturgical celebrations.
